In actuality, many of these books would be fine inclusions on a top 10 mystery list.

I'm not entirely *back* back -- as this very late reply shows. I'm theoretically back. I'm hoping that in a month or so I can reveal just why I so suddenly disappeared overnight. But I think I'll pop in every once in a while with a review of something or other. It's just that most of my reading matter these days are books which just wouldn't be appropriate to review on this blog, especially when they are theological or philosophical works.Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844617192737950378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-39208005365985368052014-06-05T16:19:23.709-04:002014-06-05T16:19:23.709-04:00But you missed the best one! I forget the title and the name of the author, but there's a skull on the cover. And it's old. How could you have missed it?
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-6180337578292022872014-06-05T15:47:36.431-04:002014-06-05T15:47:36.431-04:00Actually, I completely forgot about the Peter Høeg...Actually, I completely forgot about the Peter Høeg novel - now that takes me back - it seemed like such a big deal at the time. Then the movie came out and nobody cared!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-49752578083069978932014-06-05T15:40:16.898-04:002014-06-05T15:40:16.898-04:00And a referencd to the odd horse's head (or so...And a referencd to the odd horse's head (or some other part of it's anatomy) does seem in order too! Blimey, you've been away for two whole months and you're still as pissed off as ever - see, that's the sign of being old, I just can't sustain the bile for that long anymore. I'll try not to take this list toooooo personally since it matches a fair number of my on the record faves and of course I love making comparisons to the movie adaptations (in the case of the 1941 version of FALCON they really are that close though) - Les is right, the lack of dark noir from one of the godless northern countries is a series omission. So, are you now back in the land of the blogging (just as I am about to leave it?) - all the best chum. I'm sorry you missed the chance to tell the story AGAIN that Raymond Chandler didn't know himself who killed the chauffeur in the film of the Big Sleep: I thought it was the law that you had to include that anecdote.Clothes In Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14680610242823846662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-41826161378319707512014-06-05T07:36:51.594-04:002014-06-05T07:36:51.594-04:00Oh come on, Patrick, how could you POSSIBLY make u...Oh come on, Patrick, how could you POSSIBLY make up a Top Ten list without at least one (preferably more) gloomy Scandinavian Noir novel featuring damaged police men and women investigating damaged psychopaths? Where is the obligatory inside-the-mind-of-a-serial-killer novel? How about the ultra-cool novel where the characters all probe each other's deepest innermost thoughts and maybe somebody gets murdered? Or not? Too many plots here! Hmpf! Or, more accurately perhaps, pfui!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
