Though, if we're starting on punning titles, might I suggest "His Last Bough"? ;) As for which of the titles is better, I haven't got any particular preference.

So Jimmy is a recurring character? I thought he was a one-off, and so didn't bother mentioning his long-distance love interest. You're quite right- it's very much a satire of the Crime Queens. There are some brilliant scenes in that vein here, such as the one in the summerhouse that starts with the dialogue I quoted.Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844617192737950378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-32180045793474345272011-07-13T23:51:00.118-04:002011-07-13T23:51:00.118-04:00So which title do you think is better? Ha!

Good review, A lot of nice, chewy plot, but not totally satisfying, for reasons Patrick points out above. The writing is amusing, however. I think Street was showing here the influence of the Crime Queens, perhaps. In the late 1930s he introduced Jimmy, who is more of a gent detective, complete with a lovely, clever lady love interest. Who does this sound like? Priestley gets more and more confined to the armchair, though he's still as tart as ever, whcih I always enjoy. The Passing Tramphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09830680639601570152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-57554919620472865512011-07-13T15:20:41.013-04:002011-07-13T15:20:41.013-04:00I'm not sure that is Dr. Priestley.
