This is perhaps the first novel where Stout begins to drift off the standards of the Golden Age and his plots gradually become less important and less fairly-clued. Still, the central section of the book, with the bogus Mrs. Hawthorne and the complicated timetable of who was in the house and when, has its merits. For some reason, they seem to have stopped producing the books on CDs and now only go for the Audible downloads.
