To each his own, I suppose, but I found the novel wonderful.

@Xavier
Some of the big blunders mentioned by Henrique Valle (such as 217B Baker Street (!!!)) were fixed in the translation, which was the only version I have read-- hence why I've stuck exclusively to the English title.

@TomCat
Glad you liked the review and I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844617192737950378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-2735213811630467512012-04-10T06:24:16.219-04:002012-04-10T06:24:16.219-04:00Well, I thought this was a pretty poor book on eve...Well, I thought this was a pretty poor book on every level, typical of french 'tec novels of the period.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-70014477133292906462012-04-10T04:54:32.783-04:002012-04-10T04:54:32.783-04:00Henrique Valle reviewed the book on my blog some y...Henrique Valle reviewed the book on my blog some years ago:

http://atthevillarose.blogspot.fr/2008/08/jean-paul-trks-lenigme-du-monte-verita.htmlXavierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05702919450638993709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-29592918544850614222012-04-10T02:51:56.171-04:002012-04-10T02:51:56.171-04:00I'm looking forward to ordering this book as m...I'm looking forward to ordering this book as much as reading it. But it'd be unfair to point to a single JDC novel and say "it's basically that, but with Nazis". It is a love letter to the locked-room mystery at large and several (not just by Carr) are referenced. One that pops into mind right away (I read this a few weeks ago so I'm a bit hazy on precise details) is THE BIG BOW MYSTERY.Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844617192737950378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-12586424402346786802012-04-09T18:29:03.372-04:002012-04-09T18:29:03.372-04:00It may be part of the homage to Carr, but the plot...It may be part of the homage to Carr, but the plot set-up you describe sounds an awful lot like Till Death Do Us Part.Bob Houkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16982822149146722008noreply@blogger.com
