During the shooting of the final episode, A Remorseful Day, the cameras simply refuse to immortalize the scene in which Morse suffers a heavy stroke – which took up a lot of time until they finally found a piece of equipment that was functioning.

Has Harry Stephen Keeler become, what you catholics call, a patron saint of mystery bloggers?TomCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03415176301265218101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-453375011862531372011-09-23T16:21:55.423-04:002011-09-23T16:21:55.423-04:00I think that it is no coincidence that this book w...I think that it is no coincidence that this book was written after the TV series started. I always felt that the TV show was far happier dealing with the character of Morse than in creating a baffling puzzle. THE WENCH IS DEAD is really a book about a detective rather than a detective story, and the character of Morse was possibly affected by the performance of John Thaw in the TV show. Thanks to the TV show, Morse became much more likeable as the series of books went on, thus making readers more interested in finding out about his character.Sextonblakenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-19641941912854499632011-09-23T01:45:42.778-04:002011-09-23T01:45:42.778-04:00Not the finest outing for Morse but a decent enoug...Not the finest outing for Morse but a decent enough written book. Exactly as you say, the mystery is a let-down, but to be fair, most of the later books sacrifice plot for character - it's the first six or so that are thoroughly cracking mysteries with only The Way Through The Woods, in my opinion, being a return to form.

Looking forward to more MorsePuzzle Doctorhttp://classicmystery.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
