I do think it's a shame the adaptation wasn't closer, but it was *reasonable*. I saw an interview with Clouzot somewhere where he explained that for QUAI DES ORFEVRES, he was dealing with deadlines and didn't have a copy of the book nearby. By the time Steeman sent him one, he had much of the script completed and found on re-reading the book that it was entirely different that what he'd remembered!Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844617192737950378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-62427609154124848752012-04-28T20:49:45.104-04:002012-04-28T20:49:45.104-04:00Le dernier des six and Quai des Orfèvres are other...Le dernier des six and Quai des Orfèvres are other films based Steeman novels that Clouzot adapted and/or directed and changed a lot.

Drôle de drame ou L'étrange aventure du Docteur Molyneux was set in a very convincing and completely unreal Lomdon and filmed in a Paris studio and all the better for it. I think the fact that the film was made in the nazi occupation of France is a more likely explanation for the shift of L'Assassin... to Paris. The nazis' idea of London would probably not fit with the film.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
