While I...I must respectfully disagree some Patrick. While I do agree that Miss Monk isn't the best character in the book, the scenes in which she is not present are great. I loved the way in which Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are presented here. As a first novel, I thought that this was a great output.<br /><br />What I think was done best though was the element of horror. I felt like Faye successfully captured the real horrific nature of the Ripper's murders and this book portrayed that well. It was very startling in places, and I'm not really an advocate of blood, guts and violence to excess in stories, but this was handled well.
