So it's heartening to see that this debut effort still has appeal. I like to think I've improved as a writer over the years, but the early Devlin novels occupy a special place in my affections. First novels in a series tend to have things in them that subsequent entries will skip over, such as introducing characters for the first time. So I'm always a bit more lenient to them. Considered as a mystery, it's pretty good-- but when you factor in that this is a fiction debut, as well as a first novel in a series, I think the achievement truly is outstanding.

@Puzzle Doctor
I'm glad we see eye-to-eye on this. Because I'm currently reading THE FALSE INSPECTOR DEW and we might not be so lucky there...Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01844617192737950378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-45401476729003980532012-08-09T03:17:20.856-04:002012-08-09T03:17:20.856-04:00I wouldn't call it astounding but it's ver...I wouldn't call it astounding but it's very enjoyable, as is the whole series and Martin's other series, set in the British Lakes.Tony Medawarphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02384397026786493728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-499247432649483938.post-83779431884149441502012-08-08T17:11:34.891-04:002012-08-08T17:11:34.891-04:00So glad you enjoyed this, Patrick.
